I post a paragraph every day or two about one giveaway that I've entered.The odds of winning can be good, depending on the popularity of the blog and the item offered. I've already won a few for items such as gift cards and tote bags. Some other items recently offered include Oreck and Hoover vacuums, Target and Amazon gift cards and even shoes and purses. If you decide to enter any, I hope you have some good luck!Unknownnoreply@blogger.com3tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7069339334556588339.post-79006284250205435462010-03-01T16:52:00.000-05:002010-03-01T16:52:29.412-05:00Flipped, Turned Upside DownMy whole life has changed quite a lot over the past three years. I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia in the spring of 2007 and have never been the same since. Not long after the illness hit me, I had to sell my house, partly because, being a single mom with a very small income, I could not keep up with the repairs. I moved into an apartment where I lived for the past two years. Just last month, I moved again.<br />
<br />
All these events have pushed back the things I <i>want </i>to do and forced me to concentrate on the things I <i>have </i>to do. Any posting on the blog had to wait until after all activity settled down. And while my life is certainly not the way I would like it to be, it is calming down enough to allow me to focus on those things I want to do.<br />
<br />
Recently, in between the packing, cleaning, doctor appointments, unpacking, doctor appointments, cleaning, etc., I found a whole blog world full of giveaways! Who knew that you could win gift cards, vacuum cleaners, iPods, tote bags and a host of other items just for filling out a form, tweeting, blogging, etc.?! On occasion, I'd like to share some of those giveaways here.<br />
<br />
The giveaway I entered today can be found at a blog called <a href="http://www.trying2staycalm.com/">Trying To Stay Calm</a>. She's giving away an <a href="http://www.trying2staycalm.com/2010/02/oreck-steam-it-review-and-giveaway.html">Oreck Steam-It</a>, which appears to be a really useful product from Oreck that disinfects and deep cleans. The giveaway ends on Tuesday, March 19.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-7069339334556588339.post-79353820856228457562009-10-10T11:18:00.002-04:002009-10-10T11:19:42.773-04:00Crochet, for a change<div style="text-align: left;">My nephew Bon (not his real name) is the genius who named the blog. No wonder I feel so strange.<br />
<br />
But I can always count on family to help me out of any depression(s). This year, Lia starts first grade and John starts kindergarten. Two pretty big milestones!<br />
<br />

<br />
Sometime last month I drove up I-84 to the Paupack Berry Farm to pick some blueberries.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-38.jpg"><img alt="Blueberries 38" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-24" height="375" src="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-38.jpg" title="Blueberries 38" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
Despite looking beautiful, the berries this year were slightly bitter. But it was a hot and sunny day and I was glad I went.<br />
<br />
After getting a bucket to fill, I had to cross a small wooden bridge that runs over a creek.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-21.jpg"><img alt="Blueberries 2" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-23" height="375" src="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-21.jpg" title="Blueberries 2" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
The berry field is in the middle of the woods.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-6.jpg"><img alt="Blueberries 6" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-32" height="375" src="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-6.jpg" title="Blueberries 6" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
The bushes are planted in rows and each row has a different variety of berry. The ground is very wet and even swampy in some areas.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-7.jpg"><img alt="Blueberries 7" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-25" height="375" src="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-7.jpg" title="Blueberries 7" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-8.jpg"><img alt="Blueberries 8" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-26" height="375" src="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-8.jpg" title="Blueberries 8" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-23.jpg"><img alt="Blueberries 23" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-27" height="375" src="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-23.jpg" title="Blueberries 23" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
But thinking of blueberry muffins, blueberry pancakes and blueberry smoothies kept me going!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-35.jpg"><img alt="Blueberries 35" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-28" height="375" src="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-35.jpg" title="Blueberries 35" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
I took a slow walk back to the stand to pay for the berries.<br />
<br />
<a href="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-37.jpg"><img alt="Blueberries 37" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-30" height="375" src="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-37.jpg" title="Blueberries 37" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
<a href="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-5.jpg"><img alt="Blueberries 5" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-29" height="375" src="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-5.jpg" title="Blueberries 5" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
One of the great things about blueberries is that they are so easy to store. Just pop them in the freezer in baggies and take them out a few minutes before adding them to recipes. One delicious recipe for blueberry muffins that I can recommend is over at All Recipes called <a href="http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/To-Die-For-Blueberry-Muffins/Detail.aspx" target="_blank">To Die For Blueberry Muffins.</a> Yummy!<br />
<br />
After getting home and changing my shoes and socks, I found that some of the flower seeds I'd thrown in the pots on the back porch had bloomed. Since my thumb is definitely not green, this was a big accomplishment for me!<br />
<br />
<a href="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-45.jpg"><img alt="Flower 1" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-34" height="375" src="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/08/blueb-8-09-45.jpg" title="Flower 1" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />

<br />
<br />
Today I went on a short car trip with my two favorite relatives under 10:<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/7-28-2009-2.jpg?w=300"><img alt="Lia" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3" height="224" src="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/7-28-2009-2.jpg?w=300" title="Lia" width="300" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><b>and</b></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/7-28-2009-1.jpg?w=300"><img alt="Johnny" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-4" height="224" src="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/7-28-2009-1.jpg?w=300" title="Johnny" width="300" /></a></div><br />
<br />
While we waited for their mom, they threw pennies in the fountain on Spruce St.<br />
<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/7-28-2009-9.jpg?w=300"><img alt="Spruce St fountain" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-5" height="224" src="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/7-28-2009-9.jpg?w=300" title="Spruce St fountain" width="300" /></a></div><br />
<div style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/7-28-2009-17.jpg?w=300"><img alt="water" class="aligncenter size-medium wp-image-6" height="224" src="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/7-28-2009-17.jpg?w=300" title="water" width="300" /></a></div><br />
<br />
Then their mom came and we tried to take a nice family photo but we weren't very lucky.<br />
<div style="text-align: center;"></div><br />
<br />
<a href="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/7-28-2009-153.jpg"><img alt="family" class="aligncenter size-full wp-image-17" height="375" src="http://yarner.files.wordpress.com/2009/07/7-28-2009-153.jpg" title="family" width="500" /></a><br />
<br />
